In partnership with Virginia Beach United Methodist Church and The Gathering at Scott Memorial United Methodist Church, FPC will participate in hosting Winter Shelter for two weeks: January 4-11 at FPC and January 11-18 at VBUMC. The three churches will work across denominational lines to serve the homeless population during the heart of the winter months. The project is under the auspices of People In Need (“PiN”) Ministry.
Volunteer here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080B4AABAE22A1FC1-winter For two weeks, we will provide overnight accommodation, dinner, and breakfast for 60 guests plus PiN staff at the host church. Our guests will arrive in two shifts beginning around 6:30pm. Dinner will be served as guests arrive to be followed by evening activities and engagement. Lights out at 10:00pm, wake-up is 6:00am with breakfast service, and guest departure begins around 7:00am.
This is an all-hands-on-deck event for all three churches with a need for numerous volunteers. We hope and expect that FPC members will volunteer to serve at both churches during the two weeks. This is an ecumenical project. We will need evening and morning van drivers (no special license required!) for transporting guests, dinner service every night, evening activities, overnight watch, and breakfast service every morning. Meals are great projects for church groups. In addition to church volunteers, PiN Ministry will provide professional staff supervision at all times.
