Deep Blue Curriculum
Deep Blue curriculum incorporates age appropriate Bible stories, activities, crafts and games into a full faith experience for children preschool, K-1st, 2nd-3rd and 4th-5th grades. Classes are currently studying the “Loving God, Loving Neighbor” unit of Deep Blue Curriculum. A variety of activities are offered to meet the variety of children’s learning styles. Jesus Leads the Community (N.T.) and Leaders of the Community (O.T.) are the current units of study.
We incorporate food, Legos, crafts, art, science experiments, drama, storytelling, music, mission projects, videos, games and discussion to enrich the Bible story lessons each week. Follow up activity sheets and on-line options as well as direct email Sunday School recaps from teachers to parents help busy families stay current with the weekly Bible lessons and encourages them to explore them together at home.

This is an age appropriate, interactive opportunity for children ages 4 – 2nd grade to learn about and experience worship. Following the Word for Children, at both services, volunteers welcome and lead the children in a 20 minute WOW. Godly Play assumes that children have some experience of the mystery of the presence of God in their lives but that they lack the language, permission, and understanding to express and enjoy that in our culture. In Godly Play, we enter into Parables, Silence, Sacred Stories, and Liturgical Action in order to discover the depths of God, ourselves, one another and the world around us. This time of wondering and discovering God’s Word is what we are offering through Godly play at FPC. Children rejoin their parents after the sermon.
Worship clipboards with educational puzzles, coloring pages, activities available in Narthex.

The children’s choirs primary goal is to learn to be worship participants. Therefore, in weekly worship services, our choirs take their turn presenting carefully selected and rehearsed anthems. They also present a Christmas musical and a program in the spring. Just as sports develop children in teamwork, the musical art form develops discipline, teaches responsibility, professionalism commitment and working together toward a common goal of enhancing the worship service while growing in their faith. What is taught? Music reading, rhythm, ear training, vocal development, pitch, Christian faith through understanding of the text they are singing, hymn history, composers and parts of the worship service. All this is taught through fun techniques and games, making the process interesting, not dull. The choral and bell choirs enhance the private lessons some children are in. The choirs also offer the opportunity for children not in private lessons to learn music and participate in a musical group. All are welcome to find their place in the music program. Contact Belinda Valet, Director of Handbell & Children’s Choirs, for more information.

Parents & Family
Church is a welcoming place for families to learn and grow together through faith enrichment ministries. Whether families worship on Sunday mornings or fellowship and learn through events like Advent Workshop or a talent show, a variety of ages coming together create that warm feeling called Church family.
Sunday School classes offer individuals Christian educational opportunities that appeal to children and youth in age-appropriate classes. Adults can choose traditional or discussion-oriented Bible studies or topical classes like Sacred Parenting for adults.
More than ever we also need your help. If you are interested in volunteering to help us with Sunday school for our children, please contact Jacqui Horton at Jacqui@firstpresvb.org.
