Worship aids for the family to explore together during the service will be available in the narthex and in the pews so that the family unit can focus on worship together.
The Word for Children will focus on the “Whats” and “Whys” of the worship service also. Following the Word for Children, all who have come forward are invited to the “Wonders of Worship (WOW)” room (145) for re-enforcing worship activities and role play.
They will return after the sermon to sit with their families for the offering, dedication, closing hymn, and benediction. Childcare is available for infants and toddlers (through age three) in our professionally-staffed nurseries. For more information on volunteering, please contact Jacqui Horton at Jacqui@firstpresvb.org.
The children’s choirs primary goal is to learn to be worship participants. Therefore, in weekly worship services, our choirs take their turn presenting carefully selected and rehearsed anthems. They also present a Christmas musical and a program in the spring. Just as sports develop children in teamwork, the musical art form develops discipline, teaches responsibility, professionalism commitment and working together toward a common goal of enhancing the worship service while growing in their faith. What is taught? Music reading, rhythm, ear training, vocal development, pitch, Christian faith through understanding of the text they are singing, hymn history, composers and parts of the worship service. All this is taught through fun techniques and games, making the process interesting, not dull. The choral and bell choirs enhance the private lessons some children are in. The choirs also offer the opportunity for children not in private lessons to learn music and participate in a musical group. All are welcome to find their place in the music program. Contact Belinda Valet, Director of Handbell & Children’s Choirs, for more information.

Parents & Family
Church is a welcoming place for families to learn and grow together through faith enrichment ministries. Whether families worship on Sunday mornings or fellowship and learn through events like Advent Workshop or a talent show, a variety of ages coming together create that warm feeling called Church family.
Sunday School classes offer individuals Christian educational opportunities that appeal to children and youth in age-appropriate classes. Adults can choose traditional or discussion-oriented Bible studies or topical classes like Sacred Parenting for adults.
More than ever we also need your help. If you are interested in volunteering to help us with Sunday school for our children, please contact Jacqui Horton at Jacqui@firstpresvb.org.
