Our History

First Presbyterian Church was first formed in 1922, and we were proud to celebrate our 100th Anniversary as a church in 2022/2023. In our beginnings, the congregation met wherever there was space available, including neighboring churches, a Masonic Hall, or an old recreation hall. The original church building was a former Army barracks that was dismantled and reassembled on a vacant lot at 22nd and Pacific. In 1928, a new stucco church was built on the 22nd Street site. The barracks were used for Sunday school classes. In 1940-41, a new church, what is now our Chapel, was constructed at 36th and Pacific. The Sanctuary was added in 1958. Over time, a Fellowship Hall was added, as well as our outdoor Courtyard, Columbarium, and Colonnade. Throughout the years, FPC has been a thriving church at the oceanfront with active programs for people of all ages, a day school that began over 50 years ago and has become known for its excellence in traditional worship music.
