Opportunities for Adults to Connect
Join a Sunday School class. Sunday School classes will resume on Septembe 12, 2010 and run through May 29, 2011. Classes are held from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. For more information contact Jacqui Horton, Education Director.
Our "young couples" Sunday School class will resume in the fall. The formation of the class was a response to the need for a faith-based offering to those in the 20 to 30-something age group. Be aware, however; we will not card you at the door! You don't have to have children to join this class, but in case you do, we have great children's classes and nursery while you enjoy your class. If your spouse can't make it every week, we will still let you in the door; and if your spouse can't make it every week, we will still let you in the door; and if you or your spouse are teaching, you can join us later whenever you are not teaching. Please contact Jacqui (428-6332 or jacqui@firstpresvb.org) so we will know how many chairs to set up in room 219!
One Anothering groups are forming as interested people commit to a support/spiritual growth group once a week at predetermined times. Contact Jacqui Horton if you are looking for a small group that challenges and supports one another as we live out our faith daily. Currently groups meet on Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday mornings and afternoons, and Sunday morning during Sunday School.
Prospective Member Classes - We invite you to become a member of our church family. You may indicate your desire on the "Who's Who in the Pew" form located in the pew rack, speaking to the minister, or calling us at 757-428-6332. If you are not ready to join but would like more information please send us an email. We'll be happy to answer all your questions.
DivorceCare Recovery Group
DivorceCare Recovery is a network of thousands of divorce recovery support groups meeting worldwide providing a means to help people find help for their hurts, discover hope for the future and experience God's healing. First Church's DivorceCare Recovery group has benefited from this program so much that they are sponsoring a new group to meet at First Presbyterian Church. If you are interested in attending, please contact Jacqui Horton or 428-6332.
Each DivorceCare session centers around two parts:
1. Video - At each session you will view a video seminar on an issue related to separation and divorce. These videos feature top experts on a wide variety of topics and personal stories of people who have been through separation and divorce.
2. Support group - After the video you will discuss what you've just seen and what's going on in your life and in the lives of group members. Jacqui Horton from First Presbyterian Church and Walt Spearman from Galilee Episcopal Church, will be the facilitators of group discussion time after the videos. It is important for group members to "catch up" on the trials, problems and successes experienced by group members between sessions. Confidentiality is of the utmost importance and individuals from any denomination are welcome.
There are twelve sessions and holidays/holy days will preempt regular meeting days. *There is no cost involved unless you opt for the individual workbook to do at home. Also, childcare for younger children is available.
There is a DivorceCare Recovery group for young people in the planning stages. If you have children and/or teens that could benefit from a support group, contact Jacqui for more information. If there is enough interest, we are hoping to offer both groups simultaneously. Need more information? Contact Jacqui Horton or 428-6332.
